Our Story

In a world full of perfect-looking goodies that taste less than great, I wanted to provide a little bit of laid-back luxury. Chocolate gourmet treats, prepared fresh every day, are for the most discerning taste buds (and they ain't so hard on the eyes).

- Mary Winslow, Owner

Founder Mary Winslow majored in marketing and accounting at DePaul University, eventually finding herself in publishing sales. After getting married and having two children, Mary rediscovered her love of baking and decided to pursue it professionally. A two-year baking apprenticeship followed before she branched out on her own and formed Take the Cake, a custom wedding cake company. Before long she was supplying cakes for hotels such as the Palmer House, the Ritz-Carlton, and the Park Hyatt. From there, it was a small jump to producing her signature ugly truffles and Damn Good Cookies.
